I am going to be switching to Direct TV. I want to know your...
...experiences...? Hey I am going to soon be switching from Comcast to Direct TV. I was wanting to know others opinions about Direct TV. I also want to know did you have to buy your own equipment, approx how much did you initially have to pay, did you have to sign a contract, and anything else you can tell me. Also, should I go through Direct TV or an outside source like Best Buy to get my service. Thanks!

I can't really comment on DirectTV itself. If my experience with DishNetwork is any indication of what it is, then, well, you know...
Anyway, TimeWarner was my cable provider for almost 8 years. I even subscribed to Broadband cable (RoadRunner) and I had planned on subscribing to their digital phone service, too. However, I had to move to TX and when I did, from CA, the apartment complex where I live at does not allow TimeWarner (or Comcast) for that matter. Hasn't Comcast been taken over by TimeWarner? Frankly, satellite TV is not anywhere close to what it claims to be and I personally think that compared to cable TV, a satellite TV is more like a Toyota Corolla (or any brand you don't really care about) in a world of Lamborghinis, more so, when you realize that you could have bought a Lamby for the price of a Corolla -- (Lamby for the price of a Corolla -- don't crib my wishlist!!!) If you have used cable TV for any length of time you know how you change channels and the channel actually changes, in about .1 seconds. Well, the response time of DishNetwork's receiver that I own is so slow it can take anything upto 3 seconds. If I get stuck on one of those PPV channels or special subscription channels then I have no choice but to manuall skip through everyone of those before I can get to a channel that I can actually view -- keying the channel# on the remote is out of question. Of course, every now and then the receiver tries to locate satellites and quite often it tries to download the program list. |
