Directv Tivo input burned out. Can I swap out
the box? I got a 2 year old directivo r10.(so no more warranty) The input that the cable runs from the box to the tv does not work (no Picture). If I buy a used tivo from ebay or somewhere. Can I just swap out the card , and be like the original one?
thanks. |

Here's the big problem, how do you know it's the receiver and not the cable?
Now if you're getting a black screen, then it's the receiver. If you're getting "Searching for Satellite" it could be either (but most likely the cable) Before jumping to the conclusion it's the machine I would try another machine in it's place (a regular receiver for example) If for some reason that receiver doesn't work as well it's the cable and you would have to pay $70 for a repair (or $30 if you agree to the 5.99 a month protection plan for 1 year) If you had DIRECTV replace the box it would cost you $19.99 plus tax. You would commit to 2yrs of DTV service by doing this. I'm assuming you do not have the DTV protection plan. Also your Directivo would be replaced by a DirecTV R15, and the replacement receiver would be used. Not to mention the fact that if you had your R10 prior to March 1, 2006, the receiver is YOUR property; however, all receivers after that is Directv's property. Swapping out the card WILL NOT do anything. The card only tells the receiver it's identity, it doesn't actually tune or process video. If you buy it used from ebay or "somewhere" you risk buying a stolen receiver or other reciver that may not work. |
