Fox is a network channel, you'll need to check the guide or online for your local DirecTV channels. I will be watching American IDOL, too.

in NY is channel 5.. but to be sure of what channel go to DIRECTV.COM and then check their TV GUIDE and type in your zip code and itll show your local channels.

I live in STL so it is on channel 2 for me. I have the local channel coverage, so that is how I watch Idol. I'm not sure of the channel if you don't have locals.
